Random Thoughts: Saving Money Eating Out

One of the ways I plan to cut back on expenses this year is how, when, & where we eat out. First and foremost we have cut out McDonald's completely this year (NO McDonald's)! Which I am thrilled about -  the kids a little less, but their food is so bad, and my kids are constantly asking me for it, granted we weren't having it every day but still...I was tired of being nagged to go. So for 2011 as a family we cut this restaurant out 100%.

Secondly, as a family we have cut eating out at any fast food restaurant down to no more than once a month, just no McDonald's. We did decided to keep Subway and places of that sort, that provide quick, easy, and a bit healthier options open to those random moments we are hungry and need to eat and happen to be out and about.

Finally, the other thing we have done is limit our eating out to only restaurants where we can either get great coupons, Groupons/EverSaves/Living Social, ect, and/or Restaurant.com certificates. If we can't get some good savings then we aren't going to be eating at that restaurant.

Having said that I wanted to take a moment to share with about the above sites I mentioned for saving money on eating out.

Groupon, EverSave, & Living Social all work very similarly in that they have daily deals that take place in different cities around the country. Some deals are for local residents only, and other deals are good for any and everyone!

How these sites work is that when a certain number of people buy the deal, the deal is considered "On", meaning the deal is available and anyone can purchase and will receive the discount from the particular merchant. I have never seen a deal not reach the certain number of required purchases, so this is not a worry. If you happen to be one of the first few people to purchase the deal before it is considered 'On', and for some reason not enough people participate in purchasing the deal you won't be charged and you won't receive the discount.

I bring all this up because today on all three of the above sites each has some great deals in Orlando for local restaurants. Now if you aren't in the Orlando area I still suggest you check each site out and visit the city nearest you and see what your local deal may be for today. I have used all three sites successfully numerous times and have never had an issue, and I have been able to save a lot of money on all sorts of different services and products from all over, not just eating out.

For only $17 get a $35 voucher to Giordano's Italian Restaraunt & Pizzeria in the Orlando area.

For only $10 you can purchase a $20 voucher for food and drinks at Pine 22 in the Orlando area.

For only $10 you can purchase a $20 voucher for food at Jersey Mike's Sub Shop in the Altamonte Springs area & Lake Mary

Before I close let me give you a quick intro to Restaurant.com. This is also another great way to save on your eating out trips. Normally for $10 you can purchase certificates to local restaurants for $25 off $35 (this amount can vary per restaurant, some are $25 off $40, or $25 off $50). However, more times than not Restaurant.com has promo codes where you can purchase these same certificates for 50%-80% off. When the 80% off codes are available I will then stock up on these certficates because I now only have to pay $2.00 for the same certificate.

My other little secret is to purchase through ShopAtHome.com and receive 30% back, making these well under $2.00 for each certificate.

Those are my random thoughts on saving money eating out. . .

PLUS - go through your ShopAtHome account and receive 30% back for everything you spend. If you are new to ShopAtHome, you will recieve a one time $5 sign up bonus.

Restaurant.com: 80% Off Gift Certificates PLUS 30% Cash Back

Now through Nov. 15, 2010 when you use the code GIVE at Restaurant.com, you will receive 80% off your total purchases. Plus go through your ShopAtHome account and receive 30% cash make. If you are new to ShopAtHome you will receive a sign on bonus of $5.

What is Restaurant.com - it is a site where you can purchase discounted gift certificates to local area restaurants, that participate in the program. For example you can purchase a -$25/$50 gift certificate for $10. Right now when you use the code GIVE during check out, you'll get 80% taken off. In other words it will only cost you $2.00 to purchase the -$25/$50 gift certificate.

BUT if you go through your ShopAtHome account you'll receive an additional 30% back on your purchase. If you were to purchase $30 worth of gift certificates through Restaurant.com, you'll receive $9.00 back in your ShopAtHome account, making this deal only $21 for $150 worth of gift certificates.

Also, you can purchase a $50 Restaurant.com gift certificate for only $25, use the code GIVE, and pay only $5 for the gift certificate, plus get 30% back in your ShopAtHome acct of $1.50. Meaning for only $3.50 you can get a $50 gift card to Restaurant.com. This would be an ideal Chistmas gift, especially for neighbors or teachers.

I love using my Restaurant.com gift certificates to save BIG on eating out. And I'm a little excited because a couple of our local Chinese restaurants have joined the program so I was able to grab a few certificates.

I HIGHLY recommend checking this site out, and go through your ShopAtHome to receive that additional 30% back. This is a great way to save on your Entertainment budget.

EverSave: $7 Date With My Hubby

I wanted to share with everyone why I love and recommend using sites like EverSave (Groupon & LivingSocial). Tonight I was able to go on a nice date with my husband and it only cost us $7 for a $25 meal at Maria Bonita's in Orlando.

-Our bill actually came to $0.00!-

How did we do this, well last week on EverSave, Maria Bonita had a deal that for $12 you could purchase $25 worth of food and drinks. I had a $5.00 credit on my EverSave account, which I only had to pay $7 for $25 worth of food and drinks.

I just want to encourage ALL of you to sign up with these amazing Daily Deal sites. You don't have to purchase every single deal out there. But especially with Christmas coming up there have been amazing deals on merchandise that would make excellent Christmas presents. And many of these sites provide one time credits that can be used on your first purchase. Plus if you refer friends, these sites will credit your account with more credits that can be used on future purchases.

If you are looking for ways to save on eating out, Christmas presents, or anything for that matter. Then I suggest you, if you haven't already, sign up for these sites. I am providing a list below of all the sites I am signed up for and follow and have purchased amazing deals from already. (If you wouldn't mind clicking the links below when you go to sign up. As I said earlier many of the sites will provide credits for referring others to their sites, and this is also a way of helping me continue to keep this site going).

Swagbucks - A search engine (like google or yahoo) that gives you rewards, just for searching the web. Completely FREE and completely worth your time. Intro to Swagbucks

ShopAtHome- A site that pays you for shopping online. You will earn a certain percentage from thousands of national stores and online stores, just by shopping through ShopAtHome. It's a great way to receive an extra discount for stores you would normally shop.

Ebates- Same idea as ShopAtHome, just a competitor site to ShopAtHome. Receive a certain percentage from thousands of national and online stores, just for shopping through Ebates.

Modnique- A Daily Deal site, that has different deals from well-known named products and stores that are discounted up to 90% off regular retail. You'll find stores like Reebok, Cuisineart, Disney, Gap, Limited, ect.. on here offering unbelievable deals. Plus you will receive a one time $5 credit that is good towards your first purchase.

Groupon- A Daily Deal site, that offers unbelievable discounts on local area businesses and online businesses, as well. You will find deals that are marked down by up to as much as 90%. Businesses include everything from restaurants, local gyms, spas, hair treatments, movie tickets, and on and on the list goes. The trick is that so many people have to be willing to purchase the deal before it is considered to 'Be On'. But, the minimum number of people usually purchase the deals.

EverSave- A Daily Deal site, very similar to Groupon. However, you will receive a one time $5 credit for signing up that you can use towards your first purchase. This site works the same as Groupon. Once the minimun number of participants purchase the deal, it will then be considered 'Unlocked'.

LivingSocial- A Daily Deal site, similar to Groupon and Eversave. A minimum number of participants must be willing to purchase the deal before it is available.
